The Orphan Singer of Venice

I’ve been making occasional trips to Venice the last couple of years to gather information and absorb the essence of 18th century Venice through the window of the city that is overrun by modern tourists. I have come to love the city as it is and as it was. Discovering the possibility that an orphan girl who lived three hundred years ago may have been one of the most expressive and skillful singer the world has ever known gave me the idea that her story should be told, even if we know little of it. I will never forget my first day in Venice, finding the Chiesa Santa Maria della Pietà surrounded by tourists on a Sunday evening, then turning and picturing the feet of a small orphan girl, alone, abandoned by the world, but with a magnificent future. My hope is not only to tell her story, but also to help others discover, through the power of the imagination, the joys of singing and learning to sing.

The book is now in it’s infancy. As soon as I have completed 101 Meditations for Singers, I’ll be able to devote all of my writing time to this story. Stay in touch. I’ll update the progress occasionally.
